"We try harder"
Warren Avis founded Avis Rent-A-Car in 1946, opening the first airport rental car office in Detroit, followed soon after by opening one in Miami. Avis was the pioneer that led to one of the most profitable markets in the automotive industry. Currently, Avis ranks 2nd in the world for largest general-use car rental business, with over 1,700 locations throughout the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand & the Latin American/Caribbean region. (Avis Europe Plc, headquartered in the U.K has an additional 3,050 locations throughout Europe under its control)
Avis has long been recognized as the industry leader in terms of application of new technologies to their business, and is considered one of the world's top brands for customer loyalty. In 2003, in fact, Avis was ranked #1 out of 182 surveyed in the Customer Loyalty Index, a repeat of 2002 when it was ranked #1 out of 158.
